Class 3 – Normandie
Welcome back! I hope you’ve had a lovely week off. We are all very excited for this new term.
Below is an overview of our Term 4 learning. If there is anything you would like to discuss or any questions you have then please feel free to speak to me.
In Class 3 this term we will initially be writing a playscript. We will explore different features of a playscript and how we use them. We will be taking a scene from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and turning it into a play. We will be using the speech from the narrative and converting it into the layout of a playscript. We will be exploring stage directions and thinking about how we can use them to tell our ‘actors’ how to act and how to say their lines.
Alongside this, the children will improve their use of vocabulary and knowledge of sentence structures. We will continue to develop our use of fronted adverbials and brackets. We will aim to improve the accuracy of our writing this term, with a further focus on editing our work.
The children will begin learning about statistics. This will involve interpreting and presenting data using bar charts, pictograms and tables. We will then use these skills to solve one-step and two-step problems.
Every Mathematics lesson will begin with starters which will allow the children to actively participate in practise of their mental calculations and extend their knowledge of their times tables. Each week the children have an opportunity to earn a ‘Table Bug’ – the children can receive one when a set of tables have been successfully learnt.
This term we have got a ‘Science Week’. We will be carrying out an experiment over time and making careful observations and writing up our findings. We will also be taking part in different science-based activities over the week, including a forensic workshop!
Our theme this term is ‘The Victorians’, this is a history topic. Children will learn about the social history of people during the Victorian period. They will also explore the life of wealthy and poor people in the Victorian times and how their lives were different.
This term the children will continue to learn about Christianity. We will be looking at the key messages in the Bible, in particular the Easter story.
PE, this term, will be focusing on ball skills. PE will take place on a Tuesday afternoon but I would be grateful if you would ensure that children have their kit in school every day. This term children will be provided with the opportunity to acquire, develop and refine skills. As I am sure you are aware, PE kits need to be labelled, long hair tied back and all earrings removed for PE sessions.
Every Tuesday we will be going down to our woodland area. Please can children bring in some wellies or old shoes (that it doesn’t matter if they get muddy) and a water proof coat. If they have water proof trousers they can bring those in as well.
Homework will be set every Friday, I would appreciate the homework to be completed and returned to school on Monday. The homework will consist of spellings, Mathematics and English. The spellings are a selection of words the children have been practicing all week and there is a small section for a spelling test. The Mathematics and English will be targeted at giving pupils a chance to practice what they have learnt in class or introducing them to an upcoming topic.
