Class Six have had a great start to the term and the children and I are really pleased to welcome back Mrs Lloyd to the teaching team. The writing has got off to a scary start with ghost stories and I can’t wait to see how they end. We are using mystery stories in our Guided Reading to improve our prediction and questioning skills. Whilst in SPAG we are covering all types of punctuation, especially how to use inverted commas for speech and the children are increasing their vocabulary through daily spelling practice.
Mr Brittain has also joined the teaching team as the Year Six Tutor and the children will be working hard with their final preparation for the SATs tests in May 2016.
Maths continues to move on and we will be covering 2D and 3D shapes, statistics and data together with calculating with fractions. Could I please ask you to help your children learn their times tables, especially the 6s, 7s 8s and 9s? This would make a big difference with their speed of answering questions about division.
Science is really interesting this term as we will be studying dinosaurs and fossils, endangered species as well as how we inherit our looks from our parents and grandparents. We will be looking at family trees and it would be really helpful if you could share family photographs with your children so that they could spot similarities with family members.
Our Design Technology will be linked to our Science and we will be making moving animals.
Whilst in RE, we will be studying the colourful world of Sikhism.
Once again, I am appealing to you for any unwanted cardboard boxes (no bigger than cereal packets) and clean plastic bottle tops. Any contributions will really enhance the class’s creative work.
