I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the class teacher for Les Poires, which is a mixture of children from Years 5 and 6. Change can be an uncomfortable experience at any stage in life so it would not be unusual if some of the children were a little unsettled this week. If any parents would like to meet me to discuss their child’s Learning or Behaviour or just to put a face to a name please feel free to contact me via the school office and we can arrange a mutually convenient time.
The main areas of Learning for Les Poires will be Writing, Comprehension and SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar). We will be doing lots of writing this term to ‘blow the summer cobwebs away’. I have been impressing upon the children the importance of reading. Please encourage them to read at home and make a note of it in their Reading Record book. Reading helps their spelling, writing and vocabulary.
I cannot stress enough that the basis of all Maths is the multiplication tables. You can help by making sure they learn their tables then test their knowledge of them.
This term the children will be learning about Light. Ask them to give you an example of a secondary light source. To cross the curriculum, we will be looking at Light and Shadow in Art.
The theme this term is Learning about Brazil, its Geography, people and culture.
PE is on Monday afternoon. If the children do not have the correct kit, especially training or sport shoes, they will not be able to join in. This term we are looking at ‘invasion’ games and have started with Basketball. Les Poires will be swimming on Friday afternoons – swimwear and towel needed.
Throughout the term we will look at the teachings and philosophy of Jesus Christ and link them to our school values: Tolerance, Innovation, Caring, Reflection and Passion.
Some children will be learning to play the guitar as well as discussing and listening to different kinds of music.
Once we have established an adequate grasp of the multiplication tables the homework will start to progress to cover other areas of Maths, English and the Theme. I would appreciate your support in helping with this.
