Our theme this term is ‘Superheroes’ and all areas of learning will be closely linked to this theme.  We have outlined the main areas of learning we will be developing with your child through Term 6; we hope you find this useful.

Physical Development.

PE will continue to take place every Friday; please ensure your child’s PE kit is in school and all items are labelled including plimsolls.  We will be continuing to develop your child’s gross and fine motor control along with preparing them for Sports Day by taking part in lots of racing games and encouraging ‘sportsmanship.’ Our ‘Funky Fingers’ area is available throughout the year for your child to continue to progress finger strength to help improve their handwriting skills.

Personal, Social and Emotional

This term we will be continuing to embed a resilient attitude towards their learning, with a focus on becoming more independent learners to allow for a smooth transition into Year 1.  We will also be helping the children to work collaboratively, and as part of team by taking into account each other’s ideas, knowledge and opinions by undertaking lots of group based activities where the children have to plan and then achieve an end outcome together.

Communication and Language

Thank you once again for your continued support with your child’s home language.  We will be continuing the ‘Home Language’ incentive in term 6 and we look forward to seeing yet another book getting filled up with your lovely notes. We understand that some mums and dads aren’t able to do the school run so please feel free to leave a note in your child’s homework folder and we will put it in the home language book for you. New language being taught this term include: money, pence, pounds, coin, share, equally, fair, unfair, safe, unsafe, challenge, one more, one less, double, half, tall, short, long, wide, distance, predict, investigate, how, past, present, future, connect, independent, confident, rhyme, rhythm. Mathematics This term we will be developing your child’s ‘Number’ knowledge by connecting previous learning on addition and subtraction to help us solve problems including doubling, halving and sharing.  As part of the ‘Shape, Space and Measure’ aspect of your child’s development we will be introducing money to the children as well as looking at distance.  We will continue to explore capacity, weight and size through our leaning environment. Please continue to order the numeral cards at home and it would be a great help if you could practise number formations at home also.

Expressive Art and Design

To promote imaginative play, we have two role-play areas within our learning environment.  Inside the classroom we have a ‘superhero rescue centre’ where the children will be encouraged to work together to act out superhero scenarios. Outside we have provided the children with a variety of resources to enable the children to create their own stories and props based on our theme.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World We will be developing your child’s knowledge and understanding of the world through our theme. We will be looking at different occupations with a particular focus on the people who help us within our community.  Children will be exploring how BeeBots work and introduced to the concept of programming.  Through our theme of superheroes we will be investigating which objects are the heaviest, lightest, hardest and easiest to move.  We will of course be visiting and exploring our wonderful ‘forest school’ on numerous occasions throughout this term.

Literacy

This term we will be looking mainly at the story of ‘Superworm.’  We will be using our knowledge of how stories are structured to help us to retell the story through roleplay and in our writing along with looking at the characters traits of a villain and a hero.  We will be continuing to develop your child’s reading and writing skills this term through the continued use of their phonic knowledge.  Please allow your child to write for different purposes at home using the cursive letter formations and read frequently – little but often is all that is needed for the children to practise their skills we have taught.  Please let me know if you need any help with any of this at home or even if you just want to check how to sound a letter…I am always happy to help.

Notes: Please ensure your child’s book-bag with reading book and log are brought to school every day. Please can all uniform be clearly labelled with your child’s name in them, including shoes.

Thank you for your continued support.  Should you have any concerns or questions please do not hesitate to come and see me after school and I will be happy to help.
