Class 5 – Arc de Triomphe
In Class 5 we will start by looking at persuasive arguments and we will be completing a persuasive report about the importance of eating a balanced diet. Later in the term, we will explore poetry and figurative language like similes and metaphors. We will also be looking at performance poetry and will be working on rhythm, rhyme and speaking poetry aloud. We will perform poems in pairs to each other. Alongside this, we will be looking to improve our use of vocabulary and knowledge of sentence structures, including looking at tenses and word classes, such as nouns, verbs, adverbs and adjectives. During the term, we will focus on a few aspects of sentence punctuation. We will also look at complex sentences and connectives.
We will be looking to further improve our knowledge of the multiplication tables. We will also develop our knowledge and application of fractions. We will then move on to looking at how this links to decimals and percentages. Later in the term, we will further improve our work with measures. We will work with telling the time, reading scales and converting measures.
The focus for this term is ‘Forces.’ This topic explores different types of forces, like gravity, up thrust, friction and air resistance. It also looks at how these forces work together and in pairs and how they affect our daily lives.
Our theme this term is ‘Ancient Mayans.’ This is a history unit of work and explores the daily lives and beliefs of the Ancient Mayans. RE This term the children will be learning about Christianity. The unit explores the New Testament and the stories told by Jesus. It also links later it the term to the Easter Story.
PE, this term will be cricket and tennis, with a focus on throwing, catching and marking.. PE will take place on a Tuesday afternoon. Occasionally, PE may have to be on a different day, so I should therefore be grateful if you would ensure that children have their kit in school every day. This term children will be provided with the opportunity to acquire, develop and refine skills taught alongside an external coach. As I am sure you are aware, PE kits need to be labelled, long hair tied back and all earrings removed for PE sessions.
