We are pleased to announce our annual upcoming Book Week celebrations in school on 27 June 2016 – 01 July 2016. We hope you will join in the fun.
Every day we have something fun planned.
During this annual celebration of reading, we will be on holding a Book Fair which will run from 08.45am till 09.15am each day in the school hall. If your child buys a book he/she will automatically be entered into a raffle to win a book from the fair up to the value of £5 (there are 5 prizes). This will be drawn on Thursday afternoon and parents of winning children will be notified. We do hope that you will join your child/children and browse a great collection whilst helping the school to raise money for more books! Books will need to be paid for with cash on the day.
We are running a spelling competition ‘Spelling Bee’. This will involve children bringing home spellings to learn over the week and will culminate in a test in school on Thursday of Book Week. There will be a prize and certificate for the winner and for the ‘runner up’ of each learning stage.
Throughout the week children will engage in a range of creative and fun activities, making use of our field and Forest School. For example, teachers will carefully plan a surprise or hook which will be planted somewhere in the school grounds for the children to find. This will ignite a variety of responses including drama and role play, and will finish with the children writing stories that will be made into a learning stage book for everyone to read!
We would also like to invite you into school from 9.00am until 9.30am to choose a book from our new library to share with your child in class. Here is a list of days that correspond to your child’s class; please note the day on which you are invited and sign in through the school office, your child must enter school as normal through their classrooms.
- Les Fraises (Class 2) – Monday
- Les Citrons Verts (Class 3) – Tuesday
- Les Ananas (Class 4) – Wednesday
- Les Framboises (Class 5) – Thursday
- Les Poires (Class 6) - Friday
The week will finish with a dressing up day on Friday 01 July when children are invited to come to school in costume as their favourite book character. Please be aware that high heels are not acceptable in school for safety reasons.
As always, thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to come into school and speak to Mrs Cox (Assistant Headteacher).
Book Week will be a very exciting week and a great way to celebrate why we love books.
