The school uses Letters and Sounds to teach phonics. Each child is tracked through the stages of the scheme. Children who need extra support are given sessions in small groups. Some children, who have significant phonic difficulty, are given individual work once or twice a day.

In 2016 94% of our Year 1 pupils passed the phonic screening test as did all of our Year 2 pupils who needed to retake the test in Year 2.

The school uses reading books within the Oxford Reading Tree Scheme and Project X as its core scheme. Some books are phonetically based; others use word or sentence clues.
