In Class 4 this term we will initially be looking at traditional tales. We will look at examples of traditional tales and will then have a go at writing our own. We will continue to develop our vocabulary and grammar, through story-telling and story-writing. Later in the term, we will be looking at persuasive language and will write persuasive letters. Alongside this, we will be looking to improve our knowledge of sentence structures. We will continue to develop our use of connectives and punctuation, including commas, apostrophes and speech marks. We will aim to improve the accuracy of our writing this term, with a further focus on proof-reading our work for errors.

In maths, we will be continuing our work with time. This includes looking at calendars, months of the year and hours in a day. Later in the term, we will be exploring fractions. We will look at what fractions are and which fractions are equivalent to each other. We will also be learning about time.

The focus for this term is ‘Rocks.’ The children will learn about different types of rocks; how they were formed and about fossils. We will explore this practically and will perform various tests on rocks to find out more about their properties.

Our theme this term is ‘Ancient Egypt.’ This is a history topic and will involve finding out about Egyptian Gods; the burial and discovery of Tutankhamun; the importance of the River Nile and some of the Egyptian’s practices and beliefs.

We will be studying aspects of Christianity this term, with a focus on the Ten Commandments and the Sermon on the Mount. We will also explore more parables and look at what these teach Christians. Later in the term, we will focus on the Easter story.

PE, this term, will be tennis and basketball. PE will take place on a Monday afternoon now but I would be grateful if you would ensure that children have their kit in school every day. This term children will be provided with the opportunity to acquire, develop and refine skills. As I am sure you are aware, PE kits need to be labelled, long hair tied back and all earrings removed for PE sessions.

In computing, we will be looking at programming using an i-pad app called ‘Scratch Junior.’ The children will learn how to create settings and characters and will learn how to control and programme them to move and speak.
