Here is a brief outline of what your child will be learning about this term.

Mathematics In Maths this term, we have started looking at multiplication.  We are learning that numbers can have many factor pairs and that numbers also have common multiples.  We will then be moving onto formal written methods for multiplication.  After this, we will be looking at division as the inverse of multiplication and ways we can solve division problems, both mentally and with formal written methods.  As always, the children will be practising their times tables up to 12x and trying to earn a tables bug.

English We will begin the term by looking at biographies which links with our Theme as we will be researching and writing about Vincent van Gogh.  We will be learning the skills of note taking to find and record important information and we will be using the facts we find to write a biography.  We will also be looking at some poetry this term and we are hoping to give the children the opportunity to earn their Public Speaking Award by reciting a poem they have learned. The children will read in a group at least twice weekly and we aim to listen to all children read at least once a week so if they could bring their reading books to school every day, we can ensure that this runs smoothly.  The children are encouraged to change their books whenever they need to.

Science We will be learning about “Living things and their habitats.” We will be looking different living things, including both animals and plants and learning about where they prefer to live and why.  We are also hoping to be using the refurbished Forest School to learn more about animals in our environment.

Theme Our theme this term is 19th Century Art.  We will be looking at Vincent van Gogh and the style of art he created.  We will be learning about van Gogh’s life and how he was inspired and this will lead to us creating a van Gogh inspired piece of artwork based on Dover.

PE PE this term will take place on Monday afternoons and we will be focusing on Hockey and Tennis skills.  It is really important that full PE kit is kept in school at all times as we are also likely to be taking part in the ‘Golden Mile’, where the children (and some teachers) will jog/run for 5 minutes each day in order to improve our general fitness and concentration. As PE will be taking place outside, it is important that jogging bottoms and sensible shoes e.g. trainers are also in school. Our school policy is that earrings should be removed for PE lessons for health and safety reasons and tape cannot be put over new piercings.  If your child cannot remove their own earrings then this should be done before school to avoid the office needing to phone home.  Please ensure your child has a named PE kit to be left in their locker for the term.

RE RE this term will cover Islam, including the Five Pillars.  We look forward to learning interesting facts about another religion.

Music The children will continue to learn the Ukuleles this term.

As you are probably aware, the morning routine is very busy so we may not always be available at this time to talk to you but we are happy to meet at the end of the day, after we have dismissed the children, to answer any questions
