Class 5 – Arc de Triomphe
English
In Class 5 we will be looking at non- chronological report writing. We will be writing a report about France, which links in with our theme work for this term. We will explore subject- specific vocabulary as part of this topic and will focus especially on geographical terms.  


Later in the term we will be exploring play scripts. We will perform and write our own play scripts.
Alongside this, we will be looking to improve our use of vocabulary and knowledge of sentence structures, including looking at tenses and word classes, such as nouns, verbs, adverbs and adjectives.  We will also focus on a few aspects of sentence punctuation.
Mathematics
We will be looking to improve our knowledge and application of the multiplication tables.
We will also develop our place value work and will be learning about large numbers and the value of digits. We will also be rounding and estimating.
Later in the term, we will further improve and develop the formal methods for addition and subtraction. We will improve our reasoning and application skills, as part of our maths learning this term.
Science
The focus for this term is ‘Space.’ This topic covers the planets and gives us opportunity to learn more about the solar system. We will also learn about the movement of the Earth and the moon and how this relates to the months, day and night and the seasons. 
Theme
Our theme this term is ‘France.’  This is a geography unit of work and explores the culture of France and the people that live there. I will also allow us opportunities to find out more about the landmarks in France and the physical features of the country, such as the rivers and mountain ranges.
RE
This term the children will be learning about Judaism. The unit covers Jewish birth traditions, Bar and Bat Mitzvah and Jewish wedding ceremonies. 
PE
PE, this term will be Invasion Games, including football and hockey. PE will take place on a Tuesday afternoon. Occasionally, PE may have to be on a different day, so I should therefore be grateful if you would ensure that children have their kit in school every day. This term children will be provided with the opportunity to acquire, develop and refine skills taught alongside an external coach. As I am sure you are aware, PE kits need to be labelled, long hair tied back and all earrings removed for PE sessions. 
Swimming will also be taking place this term.
